We spent a lovely three hours walking then boating through New Zealands newest geothermal area. Signage along the way was informative and interesting and helped us appreciate the devastation and extent of the Mt Tarawera eruption. The four kilometre walk to the lake was mostly downhill with lots of stops along the way to marvel at Mother Nature's wrath! A shuttle bus took us back up the hill after the boat trip. I really recommend this fascinating place, the only thing missing is dinosaurs!
Wonderful experience! Recommend going earlier in the morning or later in the day as it was quite hot when we went in the middle of the day... Definitely take water, sunscreen, hat and comfy walking shoes... The natural beauty is surreal, definitely recommend!! ?
Leisurely walk downhill with plenty of viewpoints. The walk does not need to be rushed, we had time for a pre-packed lunch at the picnic tables. We would recommend this to anyone visiting the Rotorua - Taupo region. Boat trip was informative with a close-up view of a geyser.
Easy walk from the entry to the lake. So many amazing views along the way. Lots of info boards. Loved the boat trip with the commentary from the captain 👍. Nice easy ride back on the bus. Great customer service staff. Lovely cafe at the end for cake and coffee. Totally recommend this experience.
One of the best experiences we’ve had since our stay in Rotorua. Full of amazing facts and very knowledgeable guide on the boat cruise.
Volcanic and thermal areas are always fascinating places to visit. This one involves a quite long walk but we'll worth it. Beautiful bush on the walk and birdlife at the lake. Covid has clearly taken its toll on visitor numbers, so a double benefit is to support the valley
Interesting and fascinating geological wonders.
Totally worth it. Beautiful well done walkway with plenty of places to take pictures. We did the whole self guided walk to Lake Rotomahana & took the shuttle bus back. The 60 minute leeway on either side of the booking is a real plus. Tip: go early if it looks like the day will be hot.
We visited this wonderful show of natures beauty and terror in summer. The natural features of the walk were truly amazing and the guide map was easy to read and follow for our self guided walk. The downhill walk was made easy with a shuttle bus to take us back up the hill.My only tegret was that we did not have time to take the boat ride on the lake to view more geothermal wonders.
Awesome walk and had a great time. Recommend setting aside a good chunk of times for exploring and photos
We were not expecting much with this visit , but we were pleasantly surprised and impressed.
Excellent experience authentic Great experience love the features only since 1886 since the eruption.hope you find the pink and White terraces
Beautiful and breathtaking volcanic view and colorful water
Highly recommend this walk that combines great views of stunning thermal lakes and surrounding mountains with lots of signage on trail of the area and history of the Tarawera eruptions and famous pink and white terraces.Well maintained easy walking tracks, with optional boat ride at end and bus return if you wish. A great day out and cafe food was lovely as were the staff. Take sun protection and plenty of water if doing this walk in summer as can get very hot in the valley. Well worth the price with book-me discount, otherwise a rather expensive walk for full price.
Having the Waimangu App was an extra help. This gave you some added interactive features that added to the whole experience. It gave you information at places you might otherwise miss. It would pay to give yourself at least three hours to really take in all the information, scenery and the environment. So amazing to think how powerful, ruthless and yet beautiful mother-nature can be.
Its a lovely and relaxing place to go, so pretty and interesting, The bus trip back is a really good idea too
It was a nice place, we spent more time than we thought. More natural and so much less tourists ! However, the price is a bit expensive when you know that the famous geothermal place is 32,5$ ! So for 40$ I was expected to have the boat trip included. And we were expecting to have a nice lookout over the inferno crater from the hiking track. It is a nice place anyway, I will recommend it ! French people.
Excellent experience. Easy walking done at your own pace. Good value for money except thought the cruise was over priced for what it was. Would definitely recommend!!
Beautiful walk and views of the volcanic valley. There is a small geysee. The colors are great.
So beautiful! The best views are at the end of the track in bird paradise!
We spend a great time at Waimangu Volcanic Valley, we could see a lot of beautiful lookout and the walkway was really worth it ! Everyone can do this activity and see the magie of Volcanic area !
We really enjoyed this experience - we didn’t have as much time so I am keen to return to complete the entire walk. The bus option was fabulous for the older member of our group to return back to the start but also if you did the longer walk. The site is well maintained and the information is well presented on the map and at each point. It’s hard to put in words the raw natural beauty of such a place - I was particularly impressed that it seemed untouched and less touristy than many places now in Rotorua. As a New Zealander that has been to Rotorua many times, this is one place I had never been but would be keen to return to. It was serene and beautiful.
We thoroughly enjoyed our walk through the valley, good viewing points, well informed. It felt like a very natural experience despite being a tourist attraction. Would highly recommend for a half-day visit or longer.
Inferno and frying pan are the only things to watch !!
Our second or third time and we always come to Waimangu with great pleasure. With friends and family, it's always a good place to visit.
2小时的轻松徒步,适合家庭出游。景色奇幻、员工友好、设施良好。如果你希望贴近大自然、不喜欢商业氛围太浓,那么来这里你会感觉到悠然自在。
Self guided information map provided an insightful and self paced experience that covered all aspects of the history and geology of the valley. The walk being entirely down hill and then the addition of the shuttle bus back to the top of the walk made the 2 hour journey very easy.
I did trhe really lovely self guided walk. There was plenty of viewing and information stops. A bus is available to pick up or drip of from various places. With the book me deal, it was great value for money. I am more than happy to support theses lovely nature reserves.
Awesome walk through such a unique thermal valley with boiling water, geysers, stalactites in waterfalls, gorgeous range of colours from the turquoise blue lake to the blue green algae and yellow sulphur flats. It was also really convenient to have the bus shuttle us back to the carpark so we didn’t have to walk back. Highly recommend visiting Waimangu!
Excellent walk - amazing scenery. Recommended
Absolutely stunning and a must see if you are Rotorua. Very helpful friendly staff. There is a lovely cafe and there is a complimentary bus that takes you back to the reception after your walk at 3 different points.
We were very impressed with this self guided walk. Beautiful scenery! There were many informational points along the way to read and a nice map to help decide which areas to explore. We did not walk all the way to the lake, it seems the first half of the walk has the majority of the "sites" and the last half of our walk was more walking along the paths. For those with mobility issues, there are some steps (don't have to go to the lookout), but the paths were mostly gravel or grass and were easy to navigate, with not too many inclines. There are bus stops along the way if you need to ride to the lake or back to the entrance. We passed very few people on our morning walk. The buses run regularly if you choose to not walk back to the entrance. We would highly recommend this self guided walk!
A wonderful way to spend a morning. Beautiful scenery, interesting history
I really enjoyed my walk around Waimangu. I had planned to spend the whole day there and do the Mt Haszard walk so I was disappointed to find out this was closed due to storm damage as I'd found no mention of this on their website. Despite this, it's a lovely location with great geothermal features!
The waimangu self guided walk waa a highlight. Easy self paced walking through the geothermal valleys. Plenty of information boards & a clear map giving the history. Dint miss the blue pool.lots of bird life & bubbling hot pools.ever changing landscape. Bus back from the lake a great service.
Amazing experience! Easy walks. A
