We wanted to see a kiwi (there are three kiwis living there, but we just saw one) and keas. The reserve is home to indigenous birds and animals as well as non-native ones. We spent most of the time in the kiwi house and in the kea aviary. We got the feeling that the inhabitants of the reserve are treated well, have enough space and have a good and protected life (though I’m not a supporter of ‘zoos’). The path follows through the park in gentle curves and provides shady as well as sunny areas. For those with children, the reserve holds a great opportunity to see all kinds of animals including feeding them. It’s definitely worth a visit!
