As two people who don’t drink much beer we absolutely loved this tour and recommend it to anyone and everyone. The tour itself was very informative and interesting and the tour guide was amazing! The tasters at the end were great and we got a great explanation about what we were actually tasting.
An excellent guided tour led by a knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide. The house and gardens are magnificent and would only be improved by the addition of a small cafe in the basement or gardens.
So accommodating and very nice and helpful staff!! The kids had a great time and so worth the money 🙂
Incredible I loved all of it
The tour is informative and our guide is very friendly. Highly recommended.
On the third day in Dunedin, I visited Olveston Historic Home which is close to the city centre. I arrived 30 minutes early before the tour began. The gardens are beautiful with plenty of flowers, and is open to the public. It is not allowed to film inside house but is ok to take photos. Olveston Historic Home is a massive house which is beautifully and respectfully maintained and managed. I was impressed to see many antiques collections and amazing paintings. The tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and made this tour enjoyable. It was also fascinating to know the history of the home, and stories of the Theomin Family, Recommend you include it on your visit to Dunedin.
This was my third visit. I learn something new each time,
Very informative tour. Well maintained mansion. Over a hundred years ago this house had conveniences well ahead of its time. Owners made excellent use of their resouces to experience a quality lifestyle then donated everything to the city of Dunedin. Regretted that we left our rental car at hotel as it was an uphill walk.
Fantastic historical ornament. Great the lady of the house gifted it to Dunedin.
It's stunning place and well guided. Im not from English speaking country but the tour guide speak very clearly to be easy to understand.
Beautiful historic home. The guided tour guide was informative and happy to answer questions. The home is a time capsule of the era. Plenty of time to inspect and admire all the pieces in the home. You walk up a staircase to view the next level. The gardens and the old car was a highlight as well. Plenty of parking when we were there.
Our tour was amazing. House is truly a gem. In the middle of Dunedin and our tour was informative and gave us a real look at the family and life back then. My 11 year old found this really interesting. Great job those of you who keep this history for us to enjoy.
Our tour guide and reception ladies were so nice they helped us leant a lot with the history of Olveston Historic Home. Thanks team :)
I was lucky enough to get a one-on-one tour of this grand, historic house as it was low tourist season. The tour guide was wonderful with a vast knowledge of the history and the details and was able to answer all my questions. I have been to old historic houses in the UK, Europe and Australia but for some reason this resonated with me the most. Maybe it was the sheer beauty of the decor and furnishings and the fact that there were artifacts from all over the world. Thank you for keeping this place open to the public. This is definitely a must-visit site if visiting Dunedin!
Girls had an amazing time, thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I'm actually considering joining them as members to take advantage of the Sunday members night deal. Definitely recommended
So we’ll kept and stunning home! A must see.
As Dunedin locals we were shocked that we hadn’t visited Olveston earlier! The tour was very informative even though the house speaks for itself. It was a joy to behold this landmark Dunedin beauty!! Will be coming back again for sure.
Our group was 16-60 years old and all had a great time! No manufacturing info but lots of history and fun facts about chocolate.
Tq cadbury world. Tq Lucas-our tour guide there. Good services and hospitality. Sure will come again. Recomended to all ?
This was a birthday treat for my daughter. She enjoyed it the leader was very good in telling us what and how chocolate was made but you weren't able to see any of the working of the factory. It would be good idea to put some windows in to be able to see what's goes on. I can understand that they cant have us walking around in the factory itself but to see into he kitchen or where they make the jaffa's would be good. Thanks Cadbury for all the wonderful years of making chocolate in Dunedin. We will miss you ?
Fun tour. The tour does not take you into any production areas of the factory, but does give visitors an interactive lesson on how Cadbury's chocolate is made.
Great kids had a fantastic time lots of free chocies just wish we em could have seen the staff working so the kids could see! Thankyou
Stunning scenery - friendly staff and informative commentary - we loved it
Such a fantastic way to see another part of NZ's South Island magnificent scenery
Can get chilly in winter even with airconditioning onboard, so wrap up warm if you're going in the colder months. I went on a beautiful day and got some interesting and entertaining commentary, there's food onboard too- wouldn't hurt the lady serving to smile a bit perhaps (of the ole' battle-axe variety) but was yum and reasonably priced. Recommend as a way to see the beautiful countryside, looked a bit boring for kids though.
Great trip very informative commentary. Spectacular scenery
Beautiful day with plenty to see. The staff were amazing and the commentery along the journey was fabulous.
We did the 4 hour return trip on a sunny Saturday in late August. There were beautiful vistas throughout the journey. We were seated in one of the lovely old carriages which added to the experience. The viaducts, bridges & tunnels were amazing engineering features. The Dunedin railway station is a beautiful building. All the staff we encountered were friendly & helpful. We would definitely recommend this train trip.
I went this with whole of my family. My parents, me, wife, two little girls and my nephew. We had really good time. Highly recommended
We have been meaning to go on this trip for a while. So to celebrate a year here in New Zealand we decided this was how we would mark the occasion and it was a great day. Dunedin Railway Station is a glorious starting point, beautiful architecture and friendly staff. The train journey itself took you through some very scenic and varied countryside and there was informative commentary along the way. A relaxing way to spend the afternoon.
Classical Renaissance train compartment Magnificant scenic passage Goes between eye catching rural view and over bridges Highly recommended trip Suggestion Please include more information and talk about the history of this railway.
What a great afternoon exploring the gorge by train. Comfortable seating with just the right amount of commentary. The scenery is beautiful and changing all the time. We travelled with a three yr old who slept on the way up.
The railway trails is definitely a must do in Dunedin and highly recommended for railway's fans. The duration is about 4 hrs return from Pukerangi by passing Wingatui Viaduct which is the largest iron structure. The journey was amazing and memorable. Get some local best beer or wine from the cafe on board and enjoy your journey!
