Great for everyone

Had a ball, great experience, nice setup, took 2 hours without hurrying too much, saw all 4 kiwi’s roaming in the dark area. Went at 2pm so missed all the feeding, but feeding the animals ourselves was great fun anyway. Highly recommended.

Great way to spend an afternoon (and see a kiwi!)

I had less than 24 hours in Christchurch and Willowbank was my first stop. I was not disappointed. Like many others, I'm sure, my priority was to see a kiwi. Which I did! But there's so much more there and I encourage visitors to take the time to explore. I was particularly mesmerized by the waterfowl, and probably spent a bit too much time hanging out with the wallabies (only because it was getting to be closing time. I could spend forever with wallabies). I was by myself, but it looked to me like the kids who were there were having a great time, too.

Excellent highly recommended!!

I thoroughly recommend visiting the Ko Tane experience, with Kiwi tour and Hangi. It was our last big experience before my parents head home to the UK and we finished on a high! The explanation of everything was great and the food was as fantastic! It was a lovely touch that my dad was selected as visiting Chief. I can’t recommend this enough!

Got to see some very special birds while visiting my young sons. Staff are very approachable and knowledgeable. Enough opportunities for photos.. Apart from the kiwis which I was so happy to have seen! Definitely worth a return trip next time I'm visiting NZ.

Willowbank

Willowbank is a great place for all age groups of animal lovers, especially this time of year with so many ducklings, chickens, bambis, kids around, and feeding the huge eels is always fascinating. There's a good spot to picnic in the 'farmyard' or a cafe for lunch. Allow 2 hours minimum to visit.

Perfect day for under 5's

Willowbank was such a wonderful experience for my granddaughter she had so many incredible new experiences with all the wandering birds, the path to follow and see so many gentle animals within touching distance. I haven't been for 20yrs but we had such a great time from lunch in outside with the deer to taking stunning photos of all our memories. We saw a kiwi which was magical. We will be returning many many times over the next few years. Thank you to all the lovely staff also.

Great sanctuary

It was better than we had imagined, one of the better sanctuaries we have visited in New Zealand. Loved the way it is laid out and gives you an idea how things have changed. Plus the kea and kiwi were highlights

Love the place and animals!!

I booked the 930am slot which gives me lots of time to slowly tour the place. There are many animals, most of which the ducks, chickens are free roaming around and so is the peacocks. You can easily spend half a day there and have lunch there as well. I glad I have finally seen a real life kiwi in the dark at the sanctuary too!! Highly recommend! :)

Besides the cold welcome, thumbs up

So bookme specifies that we can come half an hour or less before (or after) the time stipulated on the booking for this business. The girl was FAR FROM PLEASED that we had exercised this rule. She was quite frankly, a word that rhymes with witch and I quite unimpressed with her professionalism, nevermind we had flown to CHCH and had been spending quite a bit of money in her region that we needed to save a bit here. We also weren't offered a map, there was no formalities whatsoever. With that aside, my 7yo loved the place, I think this age group would thoroughly enjoy this place, possibly 7-10... the toddlers were exhausted a quarter of the way round (just from observations). We really enjoyed all the animals and obviously all the little baby chicks who were all very cute and the teenager ducks being scolded by their mothers frequently. The Kea's were awesome, I'm pretty sure they're slowly plotting their escape. Was sad to see some very distressed quail's stuck inside, with their friends taunting them inside. I would recommend, even if we had a terrible entrance. Luckily we did come early because it took us 2.5 hours to walk around and the place closes at 5pm. We finished at 4:30pm.

Always love going to Willowbank I think I may just buy a concession, every time you go back it’s still just as amazing as the first time - great for kids, great for first dates 😘, great for taking some time in nature to yourself. Worth the price, it takes me a good few hours to wander through and have a coffee etc! Feeding the eels is definitely my favourite part

Must do for international visitors to NZ

Every visitor to NZ should try to see a kiwi, this is the perfect way to do so. But that is just the climax of this great experience. You get to see all of the rest of the fauna of NZ as well. All in perfect context and up close. Presentation is so relaxed and it surrounds you. Our only regret was that our family, especially our grandchildren were not there to share it. It is a perfect family day out.

It was my friend’s first time at Willowbank and I think it’s safe to say that she had a great time! Her favourite part was seeing the otters although they stayed in their box the entire time. 😅 My favourite part was seeing 3/4 of the kiwis! 😁
