Jet boating through the spectacular Tutukau Gorge we take in the stunning scenery of the Waikato River and learn about Maori Culture through fascinating legends and tales of the past.

The Tutukau Gorge canyon walls rise up dramatically to heights 50 metres above the river while stunning native bush teaming with abundant wildlife closes around you. This is a magical place that will leave a lasting impression.

We make several stops along the way to take in the rich history, and wildlife of the area including a visit to Orakei Korako, also known as the hidden valley. Left almost completely unchanged for thousands of years we explore the valleys many geothermal attractions.

Safe Walkways lead you past boiling mud pools, geysers, spectacular silica terraces and a very rare geothermal cave. This is one of New Zealand's premier geothermal attractions and entry is included in this package.

While the Thermal Safari does focus on a lot of the scenic and geothermal attractions along the river there are plenty of thrills along the way as the Jet boat demonstrates it's unique power and manoeuvrability with legendary 360 degree spins.

Awesome

I was hesitant to do anything like this but I gave it a go.. so glad i did!!! Its been the best experience i have done.. the driver known as chip was welcoming, got to know his passengers and had a sense of humor to him which is always a great thing when exploring.. he made the trip even better. The jet boat was so cool we did 360 spins (for those of you who aren't sure it's not super super fast so give it a go).. got close to the edge to give you the thrill.. we went through the squeeze (it's an option) which you get off the boat and walk in the water (wasnt high when we went through, to my knees or lower).. walked through this narrow opening (hence the name the squeeze), came to a waterfall and walked up and around to the pool area where we had 10mins to relax.. then back to the boat... certainly gave me a thrill loved every part of it!!

NZ Riverjet Thermal Safari - "ticks all the boxes"

After being supplied (if needed) with a full length spray jacket, life jacket, yellow tinted plastic glasses (to make it easier for one to see easily when travelling at speed) and gloves. We set off at a leisurely pace (for enhanced scenery viewing of the trip along the Waikato River) with our driver Cam to the Orakei Korako geothermal park. Cam enthusiastically pointed out various points of interest along the way. After spending an hour or so viewing the Orakei Korako geothermal park we re-boarded the jet boat for the thrill part of the trip which lived up to all expectations. Thanks to the friendly staff it was very enjoyable event which is highly recommended.
