From steaming crater lakes to bubbling springs, lush native bush, and panoramic views that stop you in your tracks every turn on the trail is a surprise. The highlight for me was Frying Pan Lake, the world’s largest hot spring, it’s surreal to see steam rising off a lake surrounded by birdsong and greenery.
The walking tracks are really well laid out, and you can choose the level of walk that suits your energy. There’s also a shuttle if you want to skip the uphill climb at the end. The staff were so friendly and informative you can feel how much they care about this incredible ecosystem.
If you’re in Rotorua or nearby, this is an absolute must-do. It’s peaceful, powerful, and humbling, a living reminder of how dynamic and sacred the land really is.
