Departing from Bayfair in Mount Maunganui we set off for a fun day to experience Māori culture and the beautiful sights around Whakatāne and Ōhope.

Arriving in Maketū which is the settling place of the Arawa waka (canoe) you can take a stroll along the shore which overlooks an estuary and the Ongatoro bird sanctuary.

Continuing on, we stop in at the famous Julian’s Berry Farm where you can enjoy a bite to eat, coffee or delicious berry ice cream (at own expense).

After our morning break, we go to the Heads in Whakatane where you will hear the stories of the Mataatua waka and the Māori settlement.

A short drive from here brings us to Kohi Point which offers stunning views over the coastline and Moutohorā island.

Enjoy some free time at Ōhope Beach to take in the sights and get some lunch from one of the local cafes (at own cost).

Your journey concludes at Bayfair in Mount Maunganui around 4pm where you are given a $10 voucher each to be used that day at Izakai Bar & Eatery.
