My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our morning with Geoff. He is a very friendly and knowledgable tour guide and we could both happily listen to him speak about New Zealand all day long. Wai-O-Tapu is a MUST DO trip for anyone traveling through Rotorua. We contemplated using the Intercity busses however they involve a rediculously long walk when you get there so definitely avoid! The other tour companies seem very poor value for money considering what you get with Arden Hybrid Tours. It was our first time using ‘Book Me’ and we were nervous but fear not as it proved to be very reliable and easy and we will continue to use it in New Zealand. My only regret is that we don’t have longer in Rotorua as I would have loved to have joined Geoff again for another one of his tours. Thank you again Geoff!
Thank you Linda for such an amazing tour and transfer service. Your attention to detail and kindness went a long way in making me feel welcome. I appreciate all the help and information on other things to do in the area as well.
Enthusiastic and informative driver :)Nice place to visit for about 2 hours! I prefer it to waitomo caves or hobbiton village (these are too expensive and not as expected)
The trip was nice and comfortable!
Geoffrey is a good guide to lead us to see wonderland, he gave us enough time to visit whole theme park , I did really enjoy this tour and thank him so much!
A bit smelly but it's a must do.
Marvellous nature beauty
Our guide Kraig is very knowledgeable and friendly. Small group tour allows our guide to cater more time to the intinary which provides better experience than big tour bus and flexi tour. Will definitely book other tour which cheeckykiwitour
Loved the squeeze!! All the staff were amazing - friendly and helpful. Our tour guide was Cam I believe - super funny and knowledgeable about the area. Jet ride was fun, maybe a half hour each way. They supply wet suit tops and a coat to wear on the way back cause you’ll be wet. The walk in had warm water to your knees, then around the squeeze, it could come up to your stomach, chest area (when you have to duck a bit to get around the rock face. Then the water goes back to ankle high for the rest of the walk until you get to the waterfall. The waterfall water is waaaay warmer. It’s so awesome in there, powerful and you can take photos. Only wish we could stay there longer that a few minutes but you head back once every group has gone in Overall, very cool experience and these guys run a great service. 10/10 recommend!
A great day with the very entertaining Tony. Such a beautiful part of the world to enjoy from the river. Highly recommended.
Cam is a talented and funny tour operator and a great Riverjet boat driver too, myself and wife did the thermal tour which was very enjoyable Especially the Riverjet ride home
Fantastic from start to finish, staff helpful and friendly, boat driver a real character, funny and in formative. We had the best time and would highly recommend this to everyone. We'll be back and next time will bring the kids.
I was hesitant to do anything like this but I gave it a go.. so glad i did!!! Its been the best experience i have done.. the driver known as chip was welcoming, got to know his passengers and had a sense of humor to him which is always a great thing when exploring.. he made the trip even better. The jet boat was so cool we did 360 spins (for those of you who aren't sure it's not super super fast so give it a go).. got close to the edge to give you the thrill.. we went through the squeeze (it's an option) which you get off the boat and walk in the water (wasnt high when we went through, to my knees or lower).. walked through this narrow opening (hence the name the squeeze), came to a waterfall and walked up and around to the pool area where we had 10mins to relax.. then back to the boat... certainly gave me a thrill loved every part of it!!
So much more than just a jet ride. Definitely the best spur of the moment activity I've been on. Shannon and her knowledge, skill and amazing friendliness certainly made the trip. Right from the minute I arrived, I was very welcome. All geared up and ready to go Shannon took us on a great trip, explaining things along the way. Then the fun starting squeezing through the canyon and out the other side to an amazing waterfall. After our natural water massage we were homeward bound when Shannon kicked it up a notch and we started with twisting and turning and 180° spins. Excellent time from start until finish and I truly recommend.
Lahmar was fantastic, great story teller on the history of the Waikato river , professional when it came to safety , interactions skills second to none and his driving skills , unbelievable. Very very good operator. Thanks Lahmar for such an excellent day. Also forgot to mention , the little coffee trailer next to the operation .... coffee sensational as well . Don’t go passed these guys , 5 star operation!
We really had a great experience. Highly recommended.
The staff were fabulous, they accommodated my booking error with no fuss, and were patient and helpful with my special needs daughter who struggled a bit with the walk through the river to the squeeze. Great day's fun all around.
Great day out, done a few jet boats round the country but this is by far the best one I've done as its more than just a burn on a boat up a river, you get awesome different sceneries from farmlands, canyons to geothermal Wonderland's, informative hard case guides and then the actual trek through the squeeze is the highlight and you get a jetboat ride as a added bonus, which of course is always fun and one of the longer if not the longest one I've done
We spent a lovely three hours walking then boating through New Zealands newest geothermal area. Signage along the way was informative and interesting and helped us appreciate the devastation and extent of the Mt Tarawera eruption. The four kilometre walk to the lake was mostly downhill with lots of stops along the way to marvel at Mother Nature's wrath! A shuttle bus took us back up the hill after the boat trip. I really recommend this fascinating place, the only thing missing is dinosaurs!
Wonderful experience! Recommend going earlier in the morning or later in the day as it was quite hot when we went in the middle of the day... Definitely take water, sunscreen, hat and comfy walking shoes... The natural beauty is surreal, definitely recommend!! ?
Leisurely walk downhill with plenty of viewpoints. The walk does not need to be rushed, we had time for a pre-packed lunch at the picnic tables. We would recommend this to anyone visiting the Rotorua - Taupo region. Boat trip was informative with a close-up view of a geyser.
Easy walk from the entry to the lake. So many amazing views along the way. Lots of info boards. Loved the boat trip with the commentary from the captain 👍. Nice easy ride back on the bus. Great customer service staff. Lovely cafe at the end for cake and coffee. Totally recommend this experience.
Such an interesting part of New Zealand. Our family with 2 teenagers loved this experience. A full sensory experience of native bush, varied landscapes and animals. Fascinating history. Well worth the visit.
We had a fantastic walking down into the valley. It was very special to be able to walk among nature the whole way. The paths are well signposted and pass through spectacular geothermal areas, and the viewing areas are well placed and well maintained. Loved the art work on the way and the differences in landscape. Sadly we missed the final part - the wetland area to Lake Rotomahana as we were concerned we could miss the boat cruise. The boat cruise was very informative and it was fantastic to see Mount Tarawera up close. Thoroughly recommend to all and would happily go again.
Probably one of the best things we did down in Rotorua - Alan the boat driver is awesome and knows so much about the area! Would highly highly recommend
We walked down and we loved the valley and the cruise. However we took the Mt Haszard hiking trail which would be great if you want some exercise but is not great if you are looking for anything extra, as the hike didn't offer any special views just tired legs due to lots of stairs up - over 40 floors up according to my fitbit and then the same back down. Don't do the extra hike unless you like walking up and down steep stairs.
Great walking tracks. Picked a relatively sunny day for our visit which I think made a difference (rain arrived as we got to the boat ramp). Would definitely recommend a visit. Finished off with the boat tour. If we weren't pushed for time would have been keen to do more of the track walks. Buses are on hand to give you a lift back to the centre or drop you in between stops if needed (or if you're not keen on walking back up that hill :-) ).
The walking around was good. Scenery was amazing, boat ride was a bit disappointing.
So much to see! Great well maintained trail. Staff especially Phil on the boat were warm and friendly! The boat and walk combination are so worth it!!
We really enjoyed our day at this fascinating place. Well worth a visit to see landscape you won't see elsewhere, with steaming lakes and erupting geysers. The cruise was leisurely and the boat's captain was very informative. We decided to walk both ways but the bus is available for those only wanting to walk one way. Getting half price tickets through Bookme was the icing on the cake, so we treated ourselves at the cafe.
Active lake geysers, craters and thermal pools, wetland walk ... and much less busy than the ones in town as it's a bit further out. Had a wonderful day and the shuttle back was a great way to end!
We enjoyed walking through the park, reading the info boards and info pamphlet that we were provided on arrival. Didn't have enough time to do the hike, we'll be back to do that! Really enjoyed the boat ride (take warm gear, gloves if it's not summer), learned heaps and had no real understanding of the Mt Tarawera Volcanic eruption - now we do! Staff were awesome, we were welcomed immediately and the visit made our week long stay on Lake Tarawera even more fascinating! We weren't that interested in checking out the buried village - now we know more, we are! Also, always been fascinated by the pink and white terraces so to learn there was a third.... Very cool! Only thing I would have changed was our choice to select a ticket with entry at 12.30pm. If I did it again, I'd buy a full price ticket and go when it opened so we could stop and have breaks/snacks/lunch in the valley along the way. You can get through it quite fast, but we do enjoyed it that we would have spent the entire day! Thanks team, and mad props for creating such an enjoyable experience during challenging times in the tourism industry.
We absolutely loved this experience, we took our three daughters ages 10, 8 and 4 and they all loved it and were able to complete the whole walk (minus the hike) easily. They loved spotting the numbers along the way and learning about each spot. The information given at the beginning was well done. Frying pan lake and the bright blue Inferno Crater Lake were hightlights. We all loved the boat trip and it was amazing to see where the pink and white terraces were once on display. The bus ride back was an exciting bonus for the kids. We would highly recommend this activity.
We thoroughly enjoyed our walk through the Waimangu valley. It’s a self-guided walk along a footpath, following a map to read at numbered points along the way. The weather was warm and we had clear views of all the rock formations along the way, the bubbling hot springs, steamy lake and wonderful colours of nature around us. The path was mostly downhill but you can stop at 2 bus collection points if you want a ride back to the Visitors entrance. We continued the 2 hr walk down to the jetty to explore the lake by boat. Our guide explained the history of the lake’s formation and was very informative about the surrounding vegetation. It was amazing to stop by a guyser during the trip and to see nature’s force as the water shot up after being heated by the lava below. It was a super place to visit and we highly recommend booking it.
Plan to spend the day there. Take good walking shoes, drinks, snacks even a picnic, do all the tracks, read all the most informative panels, enjoy the birdlife on the lakeshore. There were 7 spoonbills on top of all the other expected species when I was there. Weather was superb which did help too. Warning: toilets only at the entrance and half way down the valley. Be prepared!
Great family fun! Lots to see and friendly staff!
Awesome scenery; lovely, informative cruise; peaceful; full of bird songs; the crater lakes were amazing. The story is amazing. The staff are lovely - we wandered up after the cruise, not taking the first bus back. We wandered around for hours, enjoyed a picnic, went up the hiking trail. I think the bus driver was relieved that we finally caught up with him at one of the designated stops on the last bus.
