My first time in a glider was a fantastic experience. It was a great feeling to be so close to the snow capped mountains with amazing views you could never see any other way. This was a lifetimes ambition and finally at 69yrs - got it done thanx to Peter (Instructor) and the Canterbury Gliding Club - great and thank you achieved a first. Almost had to postpone due to the weather but glad the weather cleared enough because what a blast of a day. This club has the most tranquil and well-placed location for its operations. There's a friendly choc labrador to say hi to you when you arrive and my instructor John was ever the hospitable host. I got to explore everything that caught my curiosity, the tug plane, the control room, the glider shed, and of course the gliders. The club members were more than informative when I asked about things and were easy to talk to. You could easily tell there was a wealth of knowledge there that they loved sharing with others when asked. Not only did John my instructor give me the best comprehensive flight experience from A - Z, but he went above and beyond when I returned from my flight a bit earlier than planned and said "I think we need to go again and get your money's worth" So that's exactly what we did :D This is a man who put the customer first and understands why he does what he does, and because of that, I'll definitely be back for sure. (Hopefully with some friends to share the day with) Find memories forever will they be

This was my 60th birthday gift. This was awesome. We were welcome by all the glider club team. We were offered some coffee and donuts, waiting for the weather to improve. Then we were taking to the glider, explained thoroughly what was going to happen, the safety rules, the instrumentation and controls. Then we took off and as soon as the tug plane released us, the instructor gave me the controls (this was a full dual controls glider). What a sensation ! The responsiveness to the controls is so immediate. And the feeling to surf on the air and play with the wind ! And the panoramic and unobstructed view, unbeatable by any classical aircraft. I wish I could do it again, and again and again.

Such nice guys, everything so easy from booking to flight, and correspondence from instructor on weather updates were much appreciated. I would recommend this experience to everyone, great views.

This was a great way to spend a Saturday morning. The people were lovely and very welcoming. My husband booked me a trial flight for my 70th birthday as gliding has always appealed to me. Even though the weather wasn't optimal, I had a great flight with Rob who let me take the controls for part of the flight to do some turns. The view over the hills and around Sheffield were great. We also had the smoothest landing I've ever had. I'm keen to take up the opportunity for more flights and instruction by joining the Club. I only wish I hadn't waited so long to do this.

The clouds opened up in time to give a glorious break for my trip up with the glider. John was a wonderful instructor and it was exhilarating and peaceful at the same time. The scenery was stunning, the gliding more than memorable and the cherry on top was the opportunity to try my hand at gliding under the watchful eyes of John McCaw. I highly recommend treating yourself to a gliding opportunity and if you're lucky you will get Jon as your instructor~! Jackie

Such a great experience with amazing views of New Zealand in all 360 degrees, adventure-loving group of people and bubbles and fruit before departure to celebrate it! The team was helpful, accommodating and with a great sense of humour which made a huge contribution to the fun we had! We definitely have become baloonatics after the flight ?

Definitely worth it! Amazing experience and the view of Canterbury plains is something picturesque. Would do it again over the winter! The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Taking pictures and telling stories of the places around the region. After the flight, there were drinks and muffin and fruits to enjoy afterwards.

Where do I even begin? ... Me and my boyfriend did this whilst road-tripping the South Island for one whole month, before we flew back to the UK. Having living in New Zealand for 2 years it was our mission to tick off as many things as possible! Including: Whale watching, swimming with Dolphins, seeing wild Penguins, Quad-biking and even walking three of the great hikes. But I can say with absolute confidence that this tops them all! Additionally, 'Hot Air Balloon's' are very symbolic to myself in relation to a late family member, so this was something I've always wanted to do. This experience is simply spectacular and a truly magical experience. The guys looked after us so much and Michael made the whole experience really insightful to whilst teaching us about the Canterbury plains and mountain ranges. We loved every minute of this experience, especially assisting Michael to set up the Hot Air Balloon and the scrumptious breakfast buffet with Mimosa's at the end. We shall recommend this to everyone we meet for the rest of our lives! Thank you so very much.

To be honest, after having in my life’s resume experience with parachutes, paragliding, bungee and so on, I thought I wouldn’t be surprised by the ballon experience, but I was totally wrong. It is now on my top 3 best activities I’ve done in my whole entirely life so far and I do recommend everyone. Just do it!

We are so grateful the weather gods finally gave us the green light to do something we have wanted to do for years! The team were amazing, very professional and we felt safe for the whole adventure. The views were indescribable, southern alps, stunning sunrise over bank’s peninsula, fog banks rolling out to sea, farm land and rivers. Such a stunning place. Highly recommended.

it was absolutely stunning! Very friendly staff and the also the pick up and drop off went well! We could decide by ourselfs it we want to helo preparing the balloon. After that we were flying for 1 hour and 35minutes, which was better than expected and absolutely amazing. Back on the ground we had fruits, muffin and champagne/orange juice. I could make some good pictures up there and the sunset was beautiful! Would do it again, even as a poor backpacker :)

Catching the sunrise! It was a perfect time and a great way to feel so relaxed and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Canterbury plains and the mountain ranges of the Alps! I wanted to do this for such a long time and finally been able to make it and its a great fun for couple to families! I like the idea of celebrating after we landed as a way of thanking the Gods for making it to the ground safely! A tradition which they kept! Love it!
